Koln Welcome card

Just back from Cologne and had a fantastic time. The koln Welcome card was the best buy we made. In July we are taking the children over to stay near Attendorn. We would like to take them in to Cologne for a day out. We will have the car with us but we would prefer to use public transport for the day as we have lots of places to show them. How near to Cologne would we have to drive to reach the area covered by the Welcome Card, please?

Many thanks.

The Köln Welcome Card covers the complete VRS network

Closest from Attendorn would be Marienheide or Gummersbach (RB 25). Another option the U1 from Bensberg. The stations marked with the blue/withe [U] sign are underground stations. The RegionalBahn (RB 25) will be more interesting views wise.

According to the Cologne Tourism site you can buy the Köln Welcome Card only from Cologne Tourism and some hotels. Thus not at the above mentioned places.

A VRS mini group day ticket would be an alternative (albeit without vouchers for reduced entrances).

Many thanks abalada. I%26#39;ve been having a look around various sites. The Vrs 5 person ticket would cover us to get to Cologne and travel around Cologne, is that right? I can%26#39;t find a price for this ticket. Where would we be able to buy it?

What is the difference in the area covered by the Koln Welcome card and the VRS ticket?

Many thanks

Yes.

Depends on the number of VRS zones covered.

Just Cologne: EUR 9,50

E.g. from Gummersbach to Cologne: EUR 19,00

You can buy it from ticket machines.

One thing: these mini group day tickets are on weekdays only valid past 9am.

None. Köln Welcome Card includes the complete VRS network.

Thanks very much for your help. I think we will drive to Gummersbach, I%26#39;ve checked the RAC routeplanner and it is only 32 miles. We can get our 5 person ticket there to cover our travel for the whole day. By the time we have breakfast and drive to Gummersbach there is a train at about 9 23 am. Even if we miss it there are plenty more. We have so much to show the kids, we will be hopping on and off the trains all day. As you say if we want to go to Phantasialand we can buy our tickets for that when we are in Cologne.

You really are a great help!!
