Fish and/or vegetarian restaurants in Cologne?

My husband and I are coming to Cologne (the 12th time for me - but he has been there many many times more) for the Christmas markets. We are staying in Hotel Santo (for the first time).

We would like to try some different restaurants to the ones we nearly always find ourselves in, but we are vegetarians (although we eat fish) - not always easy in carnivorous Germay! Does anyone have any recommendations of good places to eat inside the ring? We eat all cuisines (especially spicy food) and enjoy all kinds of places from posh to basic - but like %26#39;interesting%26#39; places.

At the corner Domstrasse/Thuermchenswall, opposite the Santo, there is a good Italian restaurant. The restaurant looks normal, but the food isn%26#39;t. (Mama cooks in person and her sons, taking the orders, are hilarious)

That sounds like just our kind of place - we will definitely try it.

Thanks for your advice.

Forgot to ask - do you know what it is called?

Sadly not. If you come out the Santo turn right and then walk directly left into the Domstrasse. It is at the next cross-roads on the right. (Domstrasse/Thuermchenswall)

Thanks - will definitely visit and report back on our return.

Thank you for your advice - it is much appreciated.

Cologne is a city we have been to so many times in our past 12 years together (although this is the first since we got married this year) but we always like to find somewhere new to stay and to eat to keep this great city fresh for us - hence trying the Hotel Santo for the first time - and my search for new restaurants. This sounds like the prefect place.

Are you a Cologne resident?

No, but fortunately some of my people are living there (nearby the Santo btw). I stayed at the Santo several times and i like it , because of it%26#39;s rooms design and the good value for money. The only constant bother is the undersized breakfast-room. If the hotel is booked well and you get up late, be prepared to play %26quot;musical chairs%26quot; .:-)

Hmmmm - I am notorious for getting up late....!! So imay be doing hte breakfast battle. Maybe it gets quieter if you are VERY late...!?

This is a possibility. But the only safe bet is being TOO late...

Have a nice time in Cologne!

We really sadly didn%26#39;t get to the Italian restaurant - the night we were planning to go, it was packed with people and we couldn%26#39;t get in - so we went back to our usual.... The Pinocchio in the old town..... very simple but great pizzas and a good house chianti. Next time we will try hard to get to the restaurant you mentioned - as it looked great from the outside.

We did however go to an Indian restaurant that some friends took us too....... It was behind the Rudolfplatz.... and was called the Tandoori Garden or Tandoori something or an other...... It didn%26#39;t look that great from the outside - but the food was great and for a veggie or someone who eats fish (and likes it hot), it was fabulous.

We will go back......
