Gollheim, Germany

I need someone to tell me more about Gollheim, which is where my grandmother immigrated from in 1885. I need someone to write me in English so I can understand more of the history of Gollheim in 1885 and maybe have a clue as to why they left there. If anyone can help me I would certainly appreciate same. Also, if someone can refer me to one doing geneology in this area, I would like to do a little research on their names Christian and Christina Bohn Kayser. Thank you so much.

Göllheim or Goellheim. It%26#39;s not OK just to ommit the %26quot;funny dots%26quot; on the %26quot;ö%26quot;.

Don%26#39;t think that there were any Göllheim specific events. In rural areas of Germany emigration was the norm. There are many places wich kept there numbers of inhabitants between 1810 and 1910. While the total number of inhabitants in Germany increased by factor 3 or 4. The people moved either to the big cities or emigrated %26quot;abroad%26quot;. Before 1871 the big cities were however mostly also %26quot;abroad%26quot;, as Germany as a national state didn%26#39;t exist.

The Palatinate was always the hotspot for emigration from Germany. Starting with 10.000 in 1709. Main reason was overpopulation.

There were sometimes triggers for emigration waves, e.g. the failed revolution in Germany 1848/49.

For the 3rd wave in the 19th century (past 1880) there was however no real trigger, the 2nd wave was brought to an stillstand by the US civil war (1861-65). And in Germany the boom of the %26quot;Gründerzeit%26quot; (early 1870s) came to end. Basically the emigration level switched back to normal (= 3rd wave).

Only with the rise of Germany as an industrial nation the emigration pressure declined. But the 2 world wars were against a trigger for emigration.
