Berlin, Christmas Eve - 25-26-27-28

Hi,

Yet more questions for those in the Know!

Please tell me what my route should be on leaving TXL, catching the Airport Express (Bus?) and moving into the City for the Berlin Plaza

Hotel am Kurfustendamm? Do we need to use the U-Bahn?

Will the Airport Express accept the Transport Ticket? and how many Zones should we purchase access to for travel to the Hotel, probably 2?

what is of particular interest in the 3rd zone, or is it purely residential...OR is the ticket for any 2 zones, and 3 covers the complete City??

Please tell me if the Boxhagener Platz Sunday Market will be open on the 24th? and what time does it commence? Is there a better alternative?

I%26#39;ve read here that the favoured Christmas Market for night of the 23rd will be Gendarmenmarkt, do the Berlin Experts agree ??

What is recommended viewing on 25-26th assuming the weather is cold %26amp; dry ?

Finally, Is there a limited form of transport coverage right through Christmas - or are there large gaps??

We both vividly remember waiting 27 minutes, at -27 degrees C. for a bus back from a party, to Kladow, New Years Day 1972. No Taxis but the bus was on time at 0527hrs !! If only everything was as reliable as a........!

Thank you for your valued response.

Tegel Airport transfer:

BVG journey planner (for info see above mentioned link):

From: TXL

To: Knesebeckstr. 63 10719 Berlin

Buy your tickets for fare zones A and B (city of Berlin). You most likely will not need fare zone C which covers the city of Potsdam and towns, villages which border to the city of Berlin. This ticket is good for all busses (including the airport buses, eg X9, TXL etc.) and also covers S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and regional trains within the city of Berlin.

The last thing you have to worry about is public transport: Dec 24-26 Sunday schedule ie you still won%26#39;t have to wait any longer than 10 mins im most cases. Dec 27-28: Business as usual. Public transport doesn%26#39;t stop running, so no gaps - there are always night busses (some lines replace the U-Bahn) and night trams.

Christmas market is not to be missed. If you are planning to only see one, definetely go there.

Should read: Christmas market at Gendarmenmarkt is not to be missed.

%26gt; Will the Airport Express accept the Transport Ticket?

Yes.

%26gt; and how many Zones should we purchase access to for travel to the Hotel, probably 2?

Berlin AB (2 zones)

single ticket is EUR 2,10

Berlin A = central Berlin (inside the S-Bahn ring)

Berlin B = rest of Berlin

Berlin C = neighbouring towns and cities

You can only buy Berlin AB, Berlin BC or Berlin ABC tickets.

%26gt; what is of particular interest in the 3rd zone, or is it purely residential...

e.g. Potsdam or KZ Sachsenhausen memorial site

%26gt; Finally, Is there a limited form of transport coverage right through Christmas - or are there large gaps??

Service is like Sundays. This also means there is an extented night service.
