Which is easier/cheaper to take from FRankfurt airport to main train station?
|||
There are convienent S-Bahn-connections from Frankfurt airport to Main station. Cheap and fast, without change of trains ...

Cheapest is to use the S-Bahn or other local trains (RB, RE) from the regional train station (Regionalbahnhof) to the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station).
Subway = U-Bahn which exist in Frankfurt, but not connecting the airport.
The S-Bahn trains stop in the basement of the Hauptbahnhof and proceed towards the city centre (Hauptwache) and further.
The other local trains terminate at the main hall of the Hauptbahnhof.
Single ticket is EUR 3,35. Such a ticket is good to reach any train/S-Bahn/U-Bahn/tram/bus stop in Frankfurt.
It makes no sense to use the far distance trains between the far distance train station (Fernbahnhof) at the airport and Hauptbahnhof.
a) considerably more expensive (to keep commuters away)
b) despite the higher price such a train ticket does not cover the onward travel to any train/S-Bahn/U-Bahn/tram/bus stop in Frankfurt.
c) these trains are slower (on this route)

Okay, I am confused; I will be flying into Franfurt airport and I want to leave for Amstrdam the same day , by train, if possible:
please step by step from airport to train station (the one that has trains to amsterdam)

In this case you don%26#39;t have to travel into the town at all. Would be the wrong direction.
There are direct trains from the Fernbahnhof (aka AIRail Terminal, the far distance train station) to Amsterdam. This is a building next to Terminal 1. Just follow the signs.

To deepfloatparis,
step 1: after receiving your luguage head the %26quot;Regional Bahnhof%26quot; (regional train station) at the airport.
Step 2: Take the S-Bahn (S8 or S9) or for that matter any train to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (the train station where the trains to Amsterdam are leaving, usually).
Step 3: Get off at Frankfurt (Main) Hbf. Note, that it might be in the underground section of the train station.
Step 4: Check on what plattform your train to Amsterdam is leaving, and head there, it is going to be at the head end part of the station, on surface level.
Step 5: Wait for your train and board it.
Have fun in Amsterdam.....

Step 6: close your eyes between the 11th and 15th min. after departure from the main railway station.
Otherwise you%26#39;ll realize that you just have made a detour of half an hour or more to reach - Frankfurt Airport. Which is the first stop for the trains from Frankfurt to Amsterdam.

ABALADA:

Just to add to this...the railway station in the Frankfurt Airport is very modern and convenient and comfortable. It%26#39;s easy to navigate even for the jet-lagged after a trip from the US. You will see the signs to the airport RR station in German and English overhead as you leave the baggage claim area. It is underground in the same enormous complex as the airport. I hope the designers and planners at the Sea-Tac (Seattle Internat%26#39;l) Airport do as well with their plans for a light rail system to-from the airport here.
Have a great trip!
