Safety

Hello we are booked into a hotel on Kirchenallee in Hamburg near to the main station. I have now heard from a couple of different places that the Kirchenallee side of the station is not very safe at night.

As we are a family could anyone tell me if it is just that part of the station that is unsafe or is all of Kirchenallee unsafe ?

Should I be worried or are these just rumours.

We are going to Hamburg in mid December.

PLEASE HELP

Hi,

don%26#39;t worry.

It is true, that the northern exit of Main Station (Kirchenallee side) is a meeting place for homeless and drug addicts, but, if you don%26#39;t care for them and just pass them, they won%26#39;t care for you either ...

I walked there many times (often go shopping in Hamburg) and never something happened. Sometimes someone will ask you for 1 Euro or a cigarette, that%26#39;s all...

We have just returned from a two night stay in Hamburg. We were not staying in the direct vicinity of the train station, but we had also heard the rumours. We walked around by the train/bus stations on Sunday and there were some homeless people sleeping in doorways and a few men walking around with beer bottles, but we didnt feel threatened. It may be different at night. You will enjoy Hamburg, the markets are nice and the shopping is good. There is an ice rink at the front of the Alster lake.
