I just booked a 3-day trip to Berlin from Jan 27-30 on a whim due to low airfares and hotel rates. Is Berlin a good city for a solo traveler (i.e., are the restaurants single-friendly, etc.). I am a veteran European traveler, but have never been to Germany.
Will 3 days afford me the opportunity to go to Potsdam, or is Berlin sufficiently interesting that I will not have time to do that? I lived in Chicago for 4 years, so the cold doesn%26#39;t really bother me.
My hotel is near the Potsdamer Platz. Please also recommend some good mid-priced restaurants near there. Many thanks!

Hi,
Berlin is perfect for a single traveler. As a matter of fact Berlin is the single-capital in Germany (~50% of the Berliners are singles). Restaurants are of course single-friendly. Near Potsdamer Platz are numerous restaurants but most of them are typical tourist places. You won%26#39;t meet too many Berliners there. If you want to get in touch with the more authentic places I recommend a 15 minute subway trip to Kollwitzplatz (U2, direction %26quot;Pankow%26quot;, get off at station %26quot;Senefelderplatz%26quot;) where you find countless nice restaurants. It%26#39;s one of the most popular areas for eating out in Berlin.
It%26#39;s definitely possible to visit Potsdam for a (half-) day trip but I don%26#39;t think that it is a must-do especially as you just have 3 days.
