Ski HIre

Could anyone tell me where is best to hire boots and skis. My husband and I have not skied since Canada 12 yrs ago but if weather condition permit, we are going to give it a go, as we loved it in Canada. Its my husbands 40th when we go and would be wonderful if we could ski that day.

We are staying at Hotel Schell.

Any recommendations on beginner-intermediate runs.

Any ideas on how much a day pass will be.

I have been there with my family the last two years in February and am booked to go again in 07.

There are many places to rent skis. We rented from Ski School Alpin http://www.alpin-skischule.de/ . Its 5 minute walk from the train station. It is the cheapest for ski hire and they do lessons too. (Hi to Cristl, whom I took lessons from in 05).

In 05, we were very happy with everything but we were not happy with the skis we got last year, ... didn%26#39;t think they were waxed sufficiently before we got them and got no satisfaction when I complained on returning them. Maybe I got the wrong person on the wrong day..who knows, because it was a 100% change from %26#39;05. So this year I will try one of the number of places right at the Hausberg ski slope. Alpin set me back about 70 per person for the week for skis and boots.The slopeside shops are more like 100/week

The lift pass for a day is about Euro 30. You buy it at the slopes.

The beginner/easiest slopes are on the Husberg at the top of the Gondola. There is a six man, fast, chair-lift that is very easy to navigate. It practically comes to a complete stop for entry and exit. Queues for this can build up in busy periods, but the queues are fairly orderly, not much pushing or shoving in my experience. At most you might queue 6 or 7 minutes for this lift but at other times you will almost ski straight on.

There are wonderful red and black runs back down to the valley. If you get your ski legs back, make sure you do one of these before you leave. They are what I love most about skiing at Garmisch.

It hardly matters. The town, as well as the ski areas themselves, are full of the sport shops (Intersport chain) which have a lot of rental skis for all uses. The prices usually don%26#39;t vary within one skiing area, although you might have to pay a little bit more if you rent directly on the Zugspitzplatt instead of in the town. On the other hand then you don%26#39;t have to transport the skis and boots in the train or cable car up to the Zugspitze.
