Christmas Markets in Munich

Hi there! Going to Munich this weekend to visit the Chrstmas Markets and get into the Christmas spirit. This is our first visit to Germany. Has anyone any tips on what to do and see? Also we will have a young child with us so any tips on child friendly restaurants would be very welcome. Thanks a million!

Be prepared for an experience. The Christmas Market will be packed with people pushing and shoving each other around. If you get the chance to see the Christmas Market during the week (morning hours are best) you will get more out of the experience. The majority of restaurants within the city center / city hall area are child-friendly. No need to worry about that. Schwabing is nice and not too crowded with tourists and their obligatory cameras around their necks.

Thanks a million - Losing luggage.

I am a little dissappointed that it doesnt sound as nice as I had hoped. We were toying with lots of places to go for the Christmas Markets and heard that Germany had the best ones and not having being to Germany before thought it would be a good idea. We will take your advice and go on a weekday and early in the morning. Thanks again!

This map gives a good overview of the markets in Munich

The central market and Schwabing market sure are packed, but as long as you%26#39;re not in a hurry, it%26#39;s nice, just go with the flow. The less packed ones with a nice atmosphere are the Medieval Market (no.2 on the map), the Chinese tower (no.9, involves a walk in the park, so good for a daylight stroll) and Haidhauser Market (no.3) (small but with excellent hot cider). The city center and shops will sure be extremely busy on Saturday (X-mas shopping), so this would be a good day for the less central markets, on Sunday the shops are closed and the markets are open, so there should be less people around who just want to push through. Weather forecast says overcast with sunny spells and mostly dry, so you should have a good trip!

Thats brilliant Kwenga. Thanks a million. I%26#39;ve gone on to that website and printed maps etc and I feel a lot more prepared for my stay in Munich. Really looking forward to it now and I think I will take your advice and just go with the flow...Thanks for all the info.
