I have 3 days in March, 2007 and I have to decide between Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam... London and Paris are already in my plans. Which of these 3 cities would be the best to visit on my fisrt time in Europe? Help...

no doubt for your first time Amsterdam the 2top museums are a must see ,food is international and not expensive.Bars are friendly, service excellent.Everyone does the red light district,do it but dont take it seriously, just a stroll with all the other tourists.Public transport easy and cheap. There is agood zoo on the tram route.Shopping is varied and also not expensive.
Berlin is also a good 3day visit, again good transport, excellent zoo, great shopping at all levels. The best to do is stay in west and visit east its really atmospheric and a lot less crowded.Again some good museums, food hit or miss but still worth a visit.
I have been to Amsterdam 3times and am going back again. Also will return to Berlin .
Prague I thought is a parcel of pants.Rubbish astronomical clock, castle a waste of time, good food expensive.Be on your guard against fraudsters, thieves etc.Yes pickpockets are in the other places but more so prague.I will never return.

I cannot disagree more about Prague.
I think you should visit the Prague forum and read the great things other TA%26#39;s have to say. Of course we are not all the same, so it is fair to expect people to have different opinions about a particular city. However, I LOVED Prague.
I visited last January and are coming back in a couple of weeks after visiting Berlin for the first time. So obviously I cannot compare it to Berlin, but I expect them to be very different and lovely in their unique ways. I found Prague to be a beatiful city and a great value (except for hotels which are expensive). We had a great experience and did not find it more dangerous than any other %26quot;city%26quot; would be.
Therefore I encourage you to do more research and make a decision based on your particular interests. Me, personally want to visit every place at least once and make my own opinion on it...

i didnt have a great time in prague when i visted last year, but it%26#39;s an ok place in retrospect. personally i%26#39;d go to berlin every time given the choice - but then i%26#39;ve been three or four times, so know what to expect!
the nice thing about berlin is that it%26#39;s huge, but the transport system makes it feel small. this means the city doesnt feel touristy, at least not often. Prague however feels very very very tourist, which put me off. the beer and the people (again, this is my opinion) are better/nicer in berlin, although this is not to say the people or beer in prague is bad. i did however feel safer in berlin. The street lighting tends to be better in the german capital too, which can make a big difference to your impressions of a city. i%26#39;ve replied to a similar posting on this already i think, but i%26#39;d say go to berlin or amsterdam frankly. i lived in holland for some time in my youth and it is wonderful! germany is just as good but with a little more order and discipline, while prague is selflessly touristic, which is quite sad in a way.
hope that helps!

I%26#39;ve been to all three cities and would have to recomend Prague for a first trip to europe. It%26#39;s the most like europe of the three. In the look and feel.
Berlin is a big city. Like New York in german.
Amsterdam is fun and groovy. You can eat food from all over the world there. English is spoken as widly as Dutch.
Prague is a city filled with tourists. All of them made to feel welcome. It is also the cheapest place out of the three to eat and drink.
I do see one problem though. You are spending to little time in any one place. Maybe add those days to your Paris and London time. Or take some day trips from those cities. If you are going to see more of europe on this trip NO MATTER WHAT then go to Amsterdam. It%26#39;s closer to Paris so you won%26#39;t spend a day traveling.
My advice stays the same though. Europe is like a fine wine. Don%26#39;t gulp! slow down and enjoy. It will be there for a long time. You can visit it again.
