Mosel river Tours in Early March

Hello again!!!

OK, so we have changed our plans...we are going to stay in Cologne for 3 days and then head off to Prague for 5 days (found on Germanwings flights for 99.00USD R/T).

So I was thinking if driving down to see wine and castles in the Mosel area, here are my questions

Is it true everything shuts down in the winter?

Are we better off renting a car and driving from Cologne(6 Adults)

If we were to stay one night in the area, where? are there any castles open that we can stay in?

Are any wineries open?

Is there a boat trip running at that time?

Thanks so much!!!!!

Have a Happy and a Merry, Everyone!!!!

Most tourist dependend things: yes

You%26#39;re more flexible. But it%26#39;s not a must.

There is only one castle hotel to my knowledge in the Moselle valley.

Some certainly.

With 6 persons your chances for a wine-testing just for your group will be also better than during main season.

Hmm? There are some smaller boat companies running round-trips. They may do this also in March e.g. at the weekends.

KD does operate till end of March its winter timetable with only a few boats on the Rhine, but not on the Mosel.

Generally you will have more choice in the Rhine valley at this time of the year.

There are more castle hotels. KD is operating at least some boats (see above).

And e.g. the Marksburg (one of the few never-destroyed ones) is also open in March.
