Best location to see THE WALL

Where is the best location to see the remnants of the Berlin Wall?? What is the closes U-Bahn stop to that? Thanks

Bernauerstrasse is the nearest station (top exit and turn left) S-Bahn station Nordbahnhof is also near and from there you walk along part of the Wall before you get to the documentation centre. Bernauerstrasse is where the housefronts formed the Wall (in newsreels you see people jumping from the upper floor windows.

There is another stretch on Niederkirchnerstrasse above where Topography of Terror is sited (next to Martin-Gropius-Bau, near Potsdamer Platz) . 1961-90 the Wall continued along Zimmerstrasse to Checkpoint Charlie (only one block further). Potsdamerplatz (U/S-Bahn) or Kochstrasse U-Bahn

The East Side Gallery near Ostbahnhof is the longest stretch and is the one with the paintings on it.

i%26#39;d pop to the Topography of Terror personally, as it is just over the road from the only complete nazi building left in Berlin - the old Air Ministry. It - as well as the british air ministry - was the only building in its city that wasnt bombed...

theres also a good museum next door, and a block away is the site of Hitler%26#39;s bunker.

near this is a U-Bahn stop, legend has it that the hansom red marble lining you can see there is from Hitler.s stateroom...

Yes the Wall is right across the street from the former Air Ministry(now finance ministry I think). Wall there protected by meshing to stop the %26quot;Wall-peckers%26quot;.

You can follow line of wall along the street to Checkpoint Charlie or in the other direction to Potsdamer Platz as there are cobbles to mark its position (marks the West Berlin side of the Wall; East Berliners couldn%26#39;t get that near because of patrolled death-strip immediately behind).

On a recent visit noticed a watchtower on a plot just off Stresemannstrasse, going towards Potsdamer Platz. A few slabs of Wall still in situ at Potsdamer Platz too.

if you follow the cobbled line to Potsdamer Platz from the Topography of Terror, you come accross a coffee shop that sits right on top of it... its a great place to write some postcards, as well as have a rest break!
