christmas markets and hotel.

me (26) and mum(55) heading to berlin for the xmas markets early december monday - thursday. Budget £400-450 for three nights hotel accomodation incl breakfast any suggestions?? she wants to walk or use some public transport we will have relatively early nights but some local bars would be good.

would like somwhere pretty nice maybe somewhere with some spa/leisure facilities and dining in options.

also some feedabck from anyone who has gone to these markets before would be nice. thanks for your help :o)

Berlin Christmas markets:

My favourites are:

- Christmas magic at Gendarmenmarkt: Best market imho with loads of stalls to try traditional German Christmas treats and maybe buy some Christmas arts-and-crafts (1 Euro entrance well worth it).

- Christmas market at the Opernpalais Unter den Linden: Not far away from Gendarmenmarkt, close to the ice-skating rink on Bebelplatz and adjacent to Berlin%26#39;s Unter den Linden Boulevard. Unter den Linden leading to Brandenburg Gate will be illuminated throughout December (fantastic atmosphere).

If you want to stay within easy walking distance to these spots I would recommend staying close to Gendarmenmarkt, Friedrichstraße or Unter den Linden, e.g.

- Dorint Sofitel am Gendarmenmarkt

- NH Hotel Berlin Mitte (very good value for money)

- Maritime proArte Hotel

- Mercure Hotel %26amp; Residenz Berlin am Checkpoint Charlie

- Hilton Hotel Berlin

- Jolly Hotel Vivaldi

- Westin Grand Berlin

(based on location, check reviews for hotel quality and prices)

However, there are numerous other hotels in the area which are within easy reach by public transport. Even from Kurfürstendamm (city west) it is no problem to get to the above mentioned markets within 25 mins by public transport. Berlin is a widespread city, therefore using public transportation is something you will be required to use anyway.

I was checking this forum to plan my November trip to Berlin I took your advice on hotels in this posting. Mercure at Checkpoint Charlie was amazing. Thank you for your suggestions they were perfect.
