Looking for help here!! I have no idea what to buy my husband for Christmas, but whilst we were at a German Market in Manchester yesterday he said I would love to go to Germany again (we have visited Cologne but only to to to a Rock Concert at the Mungersdorfer Stadium). So I thought what a good idea I could treat us to a weekend break in the New Year but just have no idea of which city to choose. I am tempted to choose Cologne because we enjoyed it but any help would be appreciated. We are a young at heart middle aged couple, we like nightlife, bars and restaurants. My husband is very interested in football and things military.

I would suggest either Hamburg, Munich or Berlin. Each of these cities has a lot to offer. As well when it comes to your husband%26#39;s interests (maybe Hamburg doesn%26#39;t have so much military stuff, at least not that I know of). Nightlife is great in all these cities. So are the restaurants and bars. Munich is most probably be the most romantic place for a weekend getaway.
Hope I was able to help at least a bit.

An alternative to Hamburg would be Lueneburg, which is a smaller city in the south of Hamburg. It is good for shopping and sightseeing and there are numerous good restaurants and pubs where you could go to in the evening, especially in Schroederstrasse and Am Stintmarkt. For a quick impression you can have a look at the following links and also at some of my earlier posts in this forum.

For the military part of your weekend you could go to Munster, which is about 50km away form Lueneburg. In Munster, there is the German Panzermuseum (tank museum):

I'd suggest Hamburg city breaks, you also get the chance to see other cities in Germany. Hope it helps.
