Gap year couple- where to stay in Berlin?

Me and my girlfriend are visiting Berlin as part of our travelling adventure before we go to Uni and are looking for people with experience to tell us where to stay! Where are the liveliest places with lots of things to do? We aren%26#39;t looking for fancy hotels or anything just a standard room but we want the hotel to be in a suitable location so we can easily get to things to see and do.

Thanks very much for your help.

Alex.

Check inside page on neighbourhoods in order to find out which area suits you best:

If you want to stay in a lively area with lots of bars, some nighlife and cool shopping, stay in the area around Hackescher Markt and Oranienburger Strasse. Some people think, this area is too touristy - I personally believe, it is simply a very lively and mixed area, of course there are also tourists, but they don%26#39;t bother you. Great advantage: you have all important sights in walking distance, Museum Island is just around the corner. Check Heart of Gold Hostel and Helter Skelter Hostel, they are budget and perfectly located in this area.

I agree with nyc2008, Berlin is a big city this is the best location probably, I have stayed in the Heart of Gold hostel in 2005 it is a nice place.

I was just in Berlin for new year and stayed somewhere else and we had to get the train everywhere we went, with here you can walk to many seights.

Plus there is a good pub crawl that starts on the next street, if you want to go out and meet other travellers and get drunk on a night.

Most sights are found in Mitte but I personally don%26#39;t like Mitte so much when it comes to going out (cafes, bars, restaurant). I prefer Charlottenburg, Schöneberg, Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain for going out.

Basically almost anywhere in Central Berlin is fine. The public transport system is pretty good and it%26#39;s easy to get around whatever time of the day.
