Modern architecture

Looking around the various sites (thankyou for all the hints), I think what I would like to look at on this trip is the modern architecture.

Does anyone know of a tour/guidebook that would help?

Or where are the must sees?

Or do I just stand in Potsdamer Platz and look up? :-)

Thankyou.

A good architectural guidebook: Berlin: open City - The Guide

berlin.de/partner-fuer-berlin/…d_start_2.html

This Internet presentation from Berlin: open city is composed of 53 examples taken from %26quot;The Guide%26quot;. In the original there are more than 600 examples of new and historical places and buildings on show in the city of Berlin. All of these sites are practically organized via their architects and via the properties.

some important sights grouped by architectural style

there is really a lot of modern architecture in berlin. A few examples:

Potsdamer Platz with buildings by Hans Kollhoff, Helmut Jahn, Renzo Piano, David Chipperfield. Holocaust Memorial by Peter Eisenman. New Reichstag by Sir Norman Foster. DG Bank beside the Brandenburg Gate by Gehry. Chanecellory and parliamnet office buildings and library by Axel Schultes. New main railway station by Gerkan. Annex to the German Historical Museum by Vincent Pei (the one who built the Louvre Pyramid). Quartier 206 on Friedrichstrasse also by Pei. Galeries Lafayette building by Jean Nouvel. French Embassy by Christian de Portzamparc. Dutch Embassy by Rem Koolhaas.

I guess that could keep you busy for the start ...

You might also try a walk along Tiergartenstasse from Potsdammerplatz to the Scandinavian Embassies. There are a lot of modern buildings there and a couple from the thirties
