Is Berlin a safe place to be?

Is the area around the Grosser Kurfuerst safe for me and my wife for a 4 days trip?

We live in Athens and we are very happy to be in Germany.

Which areas is forbidden to tourists?

Is there any attacks?

And how about the night transportation???

Thanx and have a happy new year...

By %26#39;Grosser Kurfuerst%26#39;, I assume you mean the Derag Hotel Großer Kurfuerst on Neue Roßstraße. If so, yes, this area is perfectly safe. The U-Bahn stations Spittelmarkt and Märkisches Museum (both on the U2 line) are within easy walking distance.

Berlin is a very safe city and violent crime or attacks are rare. I have been led to believe that the far eastern districts of Lichtenberg and Marzahn-Hellersdorf are notorious for crime, but I have never personally had any experiences of that myself in either. In any case, there should be no reason for you to visit these districts if you simply want to see the main tourist attractions and sights. There are certainly no areas %26#39;forbidden%26#39; to tourists.

Travelling by night on buses, trams or the trains of the S- and U-Bahnen is perfectly safe. It is always a wise precaution, however, not to travel in empty carriages but instead amongst other people. Also, whether at night or during the day, always conceal anything of any value. If you openly advertise an expensive(-looking) MP3 player, camera, watch, etc, or a bulging wallet, you are simply inviting crime.

Don%26#39;t worry! All will be fine. Just enjoy Berlin! Viel Spaß!

Hi,

as said Berlin is a relatively safe city. There are certainly some places to avoid but none of them is even close to your Hotel. I would avoid the northern part of Neukölln, Wedding and the eastern outskirts.... But the city centre is perfectly safe. I%26#39;ve never had any problems.
