Traveling to Berlin on business--where to say near the ICC?

I have to travel to Berlin for a conference in mid-may and will be staying for a full week.

Still getting my head around the geography, so I%26#39;m hoping for recommendations on reasonably priced places to stay that would be nearby. Not sure what reasonable is in euros, but maybe 150 euros per night or less. Doesn%26#39;t need to be fancy--I basically need clean, reliable internet access, somewhat safe area, etc.

The people running the conference have a room block, which I tend to stay away from, just because their rates are usually high (at least for the US), but here%26#39;s an example of what they have:

Crowne Plaza Berlin City Center: 189 euros

Holiday Inn Express Berlin City Center: 99 euro

Hotel Berlinerhoff: 125 E

Any suggestions you have are great--even if it%26#39;s just to tell me that the room block prices are good and I should go there.

Thanks!

ICC is near Westkreuz (cross of the west). That%26#39;s not really central. But well connected by public transport.

No need to stay close to the ICC. There are much more interesting and more central locations in Berlin. You could stay e.g. somewhere along

- U-Bahn line U2

- S-Bahn ring (S41 S42 S46)

- Stadtbahn (Westkreutz to Ostkrueuz: S5 S9 S75 plus RB and RE trains)

Should be no problem to find something below this limit.

Most tricky will be the reliable internet access as this is not a priority for all hotels. The typical business hotels will have it - but they are also more expensive.

Berlins public transport system is pretty good so there is no need to stay in walking distance of the ICC. Anyway, if you want to stay in walking distance you could check out

It%26#39;s about a 5 min. walk from there to the ICC. The underground station U2 is directly on the doorstep and with the U2 it takes not even 10 min to the Zoo Station.

Sorry guys and gals but ICC is in West Berlin! Not near Wrangelkiez or Alexanderplatz!

ICC is the big real convention and trade fair center. The other one is the Congress Halle, the old East Berlin congress centre.

There are loads of hotels around the ICC, but I think they are all bad. My %26#39;secret%26#39; tip is KuDamm 101.

About 15mins away, much better value for money, in an area where real people live and the odd bar and many restaurants around.

Very cheap and very central is AO Hostel at Zoo Station

and only 3 stops on the S-Bahn.

Nice and cheap is

One of the nearest Hotel is the Berlin Plaza Hotel.

Driving with Taxi you need 10 minutes!

For business the offer free WLAN(WI-FI).

Look at the Homepage: http://www.plazahotel.de/default.aspx?lang=en

Have a good time!
