would i be able to get money out of an ATM in Germany , and would it come out as Euros or sterling ?? how do i decide how much i need as i dont know the value when it changes into Euros from Sterling - hope i dont sound thick , but i havent a clue how to go about getting money out if i run out whilst i%26#39;m visiting - trish xx

Why should an ATM in Germany dispense the currency of another country??? Of course you get Euro. I don%26#39;t think that an ATM in UK would give you Euro or Swiss Franc or US$...

Any UK Visa debit or Maestro current account card can be used in any German ATM. The only currency that can be dispensed from a German ATM is the euro. You certainly will not get Sterling notes.
When you insert your card into the German ATM, you will firstly be offered a choice of languages in which to conduct your transaction (generally German, English, French). Then the machine works as it would in the UK. You enter your pin, select the amount (in euros) that you wish to withdraw, and the money is dispensed and your card returned. Your bank will convert the euro amount withdrawn into Sterling and debit it to your account.
Note that German ATMs rarely offer receipts, so it is a good idea to keep a record of all of your withdrawals.
£1 Sterling currently trades at approx. €1.49, though all UK banks and building societies with the exception of Nationwide Building Society adjust this rate slightly to cover handling costs of foreign tranactions. Nationwide is the only financial institiution in the United Kingdom that uses the wholesale rate in its conversion of foreign currency to Sterling. If your card was issued by another bank or building society, expect the rate to be adjusted (in its favour) by around 2.5%.
