I see that the weather channel is saying that it%26#39;s snowing and pretty cold in munich right now. We%26#39;re going in February- what%26#39;s the weather normally like? does snow put a damper on activities (as long as you%26#39;re not afraid of a little cold)? what kind of winter clothing should we pack if we%26#39;re not skiing, but planning on spending a day in the suburbs (garmisch, bad tolz, etc) and the rest of the time in munich? Thank you!!

Pretty cold is relative. All depends on what you%26#39;ve experienced. At the moment, it%26#39;s between -2 to -6 degrees Celsius with the min. temp. around -13 degrees Celsius (that%26#39;s in the middle of the night!). More snow is forecast but it is hard to say if it will be there when you come. Next week the av. temp during the day will be above zero. Check out Yahoo weather.
If you are not afraid of the cold, life goes on as normal. Good, warm clothing are essential for an enjoyable trip. If your ears, toes and/or fingers are frozen, you won%26#39;t be in a mood to do any walking or activities outside. A shawl and hat help tremendously. If you are going to be outside for a long time, warm underwear is essential. And put on lotion to prevent dry skin.

However you describe Bad Tölz or Garmisch, they are definitely not suburbs!
In any case, maybe there is once a year or even less frequent that there is such a load of snow at once that it would put a damper on outdoor activities. But I was told it happens in Washington DC as well :-)

Thanks to both of you for your helful answers! I didn%26#39;t mean to refer to Garmisch or Bad Tolz as suburbs- sorry altamiro! We do occasionally get some bad weather here (it%26#39;s flurrying right now), but the world shuts down here after just a dusting, so I%26#39;m making sure we won%26#39;t be out of luck there. If we go to Garmisch or Bad Tolz, is there still enough to do (outside of skiing- we%26#39;re not skiers) in snowy weather? Thanks!!

There is no need to apologize, it is just quite a difference in distance - Garmisch or Bad Tölz are quite distant from the Munich conurbation. Just so you don%26#39;t get a wrong sense of distance.

In Bad Tölz: not much except going into Alpamare (pack your swimming trunks!)
In Garmisch: sledding, walking through the Partnachklamm - the gorge looks even more phantastic in cold weather with ice curtains hanging from the rocks.
