Many of the downtown hotels charge for parking. This is fairly typical of big cities.
Is there free street parking? Is it cheaper to use an independent parking lot rather than the hotel lots? Any other good suggestions to cut parking costs for 2 days
-Arriving Thursday Departing Saturday Morning.
Its a rental car and I was even thinking of dropping it back off at the airport as this is the back end of our trip. Does the subway/public transit connect to the airport? How much is the transfer to downtown?

The more central the more unlikely is this. Also beware of streets where parking is %26quot;nur für Anwohner%26quot; (only for residents [with a parking permit]). They won%26#39;t be happy if you %26quot;steal%26quot; some of the few parking lots.

Cologne airport has its own railway station.

Travel time airport to Hauptbahnhof (main railway station)
S-Bahn trains 14 min
RE trains 11 min
Single ticket is EUR 2,30.
