Teenagers in beer halls?

Thanks to some great input on a previous forum I was able to put together a great itinerary for our family trip the end of March. We%26#39;re flying into Munich, driving down to Schwangau, overnighting in Garmish, then Salzburg and back to Munich.

I was hoping for some honest feedback on whether it is permissable (or acceptable) for teenage kids to go into the beer halls. My kids are 13 and 14 (and will not be drinking of course) but we wanted to see the famous Hofbrauhaus in Munich (even though it%26#39;s a tourist trap) and the Augistiner Brau in Salzburg. We felt fine in the pubs in Ireland, but unsure if this is acceptable in Germany and Austria.

Any thoughts?

No problem; you won%26#39;t be able to bring them to a night club, but everything else (restaurant, pub etc.) is fine.

Your 14 year old can actually even order a beer when accompanied by a %26quot;custodial person%26quot; (= e.g. you).

It%26#39;s acceptable. But I suggest you go there early in the evening (round dinner time). Later things can get kind of rowdy. As you surmised, the drinking age is 18 in Germany.

Unless you want to drink beer and wine, then it is 16.
