May be in Berlin for 4 days in February. Not very good at navigating in a new city expecially one that speaks in a language that I won%26#39;t understand. Any suggestions of day trip operators and organised walks in Berlin? I checked on Berlin walks but note that they have limited walks for winter.
Also, how warmly should I dress for February? What would be a sufficient jacket? Do I need anything like one with down feather? I am quite afraid of cold and strong winds.

berlin gets very very cold around this time of year, thanks in part to its wide open roads, and its position on the wide open lands in northern europe.
I would reccommend dressing as warmly as you possibly can. you can always take a layer off, but if you dont take it with you, you cant put it on! i was there at easter 2005, and on and off since, and while the weather tended to stay dry, the wind/weather is bitterly cold at times, especially as the sun goes down.
Berlin is perfect for english speakers, because germans, almost every single one, speak exellent english (in my experience), or speak enough to let you know what you need to know.
Also, the city is fantastic in terms of public transport, its a rare moment when you%26#39;re more than five minutes walk from a U or S Bahn. buy a decent map and have a look at it before you go to get acclimatised, and you%26#39;ll be fine :)

fortunately this winter isn%26#39;t really cold so far...you shoudn%26#39;t be too afraid. It%26#39;s still around 5-10°C....

I just read today on my %26quot;farmers%26#39; weather calendar%26quot; that if Winter has not arrived till Epiphany (6. Jan.) it also won%26#39;t come afterwards anymore. If this is true, you have nothing to worry about.
Berlin can come under influence of continental clima (i.e. cold from Russia) and than it can become really cold. But this does not happen that often.

Don%26#39;t worry it is not that difficult to get around Berlin without speaking German. If you are really lost at one point you will find someone who will be able to point you in the right direction. It might be not the first person who comes along. Not every German will speak English, but quite a few have basic knowledge and some really speak fluently.
It is really hard to predict what the weather will be like in February. So far this winter has been really mild with temperatures around 5 to 10°C, there were only a few days where it was colder. Anyway, in winter you can expect anything around from -10° to +10°C. It%26#39;s best to check the weather forecast a short while before going to Berlin.

Just a quick note in regards to the tours.
We took the walking tour with Insider Tours on 12/30/06 and were very pleased. The information we got from our guide Kenny was invaluable, and it made our trip to Berlin much more enjoyable. We would recommend them to anyone visiting Berlin. I believe they meet daily. We also took the Pub Crawl tour, which I must admit I was a bit hesitant to do, but it was a great way to meet other travellers and visit pubs that we would not have on our own.

If it is too cold for you, you can always buy extra clothing. The C%26amp;A department store chain has decent looking clothing for a fair price. I bought a nice sweater (jumper, to the English) for less than 10 Euros last April ( when the cold wind just wouldn%26#39;t stop).
Then, when my hat blew into the Spree, it was back to C%26amp;A to replace it for under 5 Euros.

I would normally reccomend plenty of loose fitting, layers of clothing, hat and gloves for february. I think tho, long gone are the days when icicles used to hang from your nose !!!

Cold weather about to arrive. You definitely need layers as inside museums, shops, restaurants etc it%26#39;s really warm. Hat and gloves too, and scarf. Warm trousers also needed (eg cords)

Since they all closed down in the UK that is one shop I%26#39;ve really missed!
