I understand that February 17-19th is Fasching...what is this, and what is there to do? Thanks!

Fasching is the Munich name for the whole carneval season. On the last three days there are lots of balls. These are not the easiest to get into, unless you know someone or, as I once you crash a party that happens to be in the hotel where you are staying. But for that, you have to stay in one of the bigger hotels. People -especially kids - are dressed in costume and there is the Faschingszug, the parade. It%26#39;s really a fun tim.

In Fasching you can go into the city´s main shopping area (Kaufinger Straße near Marienplatz). On Tuesday there is a huge party there. Shops close at noon and the whole area (Kaufingerstraße, Viktualienmarkt, Marienplatz, Stachus) is a party. There´s live music and some of the radio stations have a stage installed to play music for you.
