Munich Train Station

We are arriving in Munich in April. We will be staying in Garmisch.

When we arrive, we would like to take the train from the airport to Munich and do some sightseeing before we head to Garmisch. My question is, does the train station have lockers to store the luggage?

Also, how long is the train trip between the airport and the train station in Munich? Will it be easy to navigate the airport and find the trains?

I am sure it is obvious that this is our first trip to Munich/Bavarian area, so any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thank you so much!

S-bahn train to Munich central station - just under 45 minutes. Follow the signs inside the airport terminal.

%26gt; Will it be easy to navigate the airport and find the trains?

Yes. The S-Bahn station is directly in the basement at the middle of the terminal buildings.

%26gt; My question is, does the train station have lockers to store the luggage?

Yes. There are lockers at Munich Hauptbahnhof (main railway station).

Best will be to buy a Bavaria Ticket (EUR 27,00) from one of the ticket machines at the airport (they accept credit cards). This is a day ticket covering all local trains in Bavaria. Plus nearly all other local public transport (e.g. the buses in Garmisch and the U-Bahn, trams and buses in Munich). The ticket is valid for 2-5 persons travelling together.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e

From: MUC airport

To: Munich

To: Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Local trains are: S-Bahn, RB, RE, IRE, ALX trains. There is anyway only one IC train Munich to Garmisch daily (a train you can%26#39;t use with this ticket).

Upon retrieving your luggage, follow the signs with a white S on a green background to the DB ticket desk and automatic ticket machine. Buying a Bayern-Ticket at the DB desk will cost 1 € more than buying one from a machine.

Take the S-1 line west around the city to the Hauptbahnhof [main train station]. Along the way there is a green LED display at the front of the coach, which will say what the Nächst halt [next stop] will be.

You will arrive 2 levels underground. Take the escalator up 1 level and follow the signs with the red DB on a white background. The signs will lead to another escalator up the main station level.

For a map of the Munich station and to find were the luggage lockers are, download the ‘PDF herunterladen’ at bahnhof.de/site/…bahnhofsplan.html

Luggage lockers are identified by the signs with a white suitcase and key on a blue background – Schließfach.

Up until 16:00, there is 1 regional train per hour to Garmisch departing at :32 after the hour. From 16:00, there are 2 trains per hour at :00 and :32.

Hi

We are staying in Garmisch and want to take the train to Munich for a day trip and return in the evening. Your experience? How to find tickets/train schedules?

Dolores

Please read my answer above.

There is a link how to find connections - you just have to swap the From/To places.

And also information on the ticket to use: Bavaria Ticket

S-Bahn #8 or #1 will take you to the Main Train station (Hauptbahnhof) in just under 45 mins. I usually take #S8.
