April 10-14, Reserve Rooms or Take Chances?

My wife, two kids and I will be in Berchtesgaden-Salzburg area in April and were wondering whether it is necessary to make reservations or play it by ear. I know that this is a popular week for American high school spring break trips, so how crowded are hotels and guesthouses?

We spent so much time in high school German class practicing the dialog for finding a room that I%26#39;d almost hate to do things over the internet.

I appreciate any and all help

I don%26#39;t think that you%26#39;ll have any difficulties not having reservations unless you want to stay in a special place. Many small towns a short distance away from tourist localities have rooms available even in summer. I personally would make reservations to stay in a nice hotel in the old part of Salzburg. Die Blaue Gans or Hotel Elefant would be a nice place to stay and soak up the charm of Salzburg.

Thank you marcopolko for your reply.

Hi,

I would always book ahead, especially when travelling with a family. A solo traveller is more likely to find a bed somewhere ...

Not only you will know, where you sleep the next night, normally you get better rates too and you can compare the price-performance-ratio ahead for different hotels
