You could try Saumagen, Germany%26#39;s answer to Scotland%26#39;s Haggis.

Read this article, it will give a short overview: http://wikitravel.org/en/Germany#Eat.
I don’t live in Bielefeld and therefore can%26#39;t really give you a recommendation which restaurant would be best but still... Try this site http://www.bielefeld.de/en/restaurants/, search for restaurants and choose those where it says “cuisine: Westphalian/German”. They should have local food.

Saumagen is Palatinate cousine. Bielefeld is in Westphalia.
Don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find Saumagen there. And even if I would not recommend it - regional specialities are best in their home region.

The mentioned %26quot;Grünkohl und Kohlwurst%26quot; would be a typical Westphalian dish of the season.

Rheinischer Sauerbraten -- a delicious marinated beef roast, usually served with dumplings and applesauce (apfelmousse).
Schweinhaxe -- slow-roasted pork knuckle -- tender, flavorful, and not to be missed!
Knuedeln -- enormous dumplings that look a bit like a wet tennis ball...but YUM.
Koelsch beer (from Cologne) or Alt beer from Duesseldorf.
at breakfast: Westphalian ham.
These are the dishes I make a point of having when I%26#39;m traveling in Westphalia - they are special to the region, and are absolutely delicious -- try the meats with the local white wines -- fab!

I know it%26#39;s not %26#39;high%26#39; cuisine but you definitely have to have fries (Pommes) with mayo and %26#39;Currywurst%26#39; - a sausage, cut into small pieces in currywurst. I%26#39;d like to think it%26#39;s quite typical and unique to the area. Also, I can highly recommend getting a Döner at one of the Turkish stands.
