Meersburg: Closed for the Winter?

I have tried to e-mail several hotels in Meersburg (3 Stuben, zum Baren, and others) and not received any replies.

I know that Meersburg is a popular summer vacation area. Do the hotels close in January?

You can find information about Meersburg by going to www.meersburg.de . Select the appropriate flag for English. However, when you select accomodations, the screen will revert to German. Although in German, hotel information is fairly standard, so you should be able to figure out much of what what is said. Many hotels in Meersburg will be closed between Nov or Dec and Mar or Apr. Therefore look for these dates somewhere in the hotel information text, geschlossen meaning closed, but other words could be used. Be aware that the dates are expressed day:month:year.

Meersburg is a lovely town, the nicest on the Bodensee, and has Germany%26#39;s oldest castle. I hope that you can find a hotel to enjoy your stay.

I noticed elsewhere that your trip is in April. Probably all hotels will be open then. Whether, or when, they will respond to make reservations to an e-mail request is another matter. You could contact the tourist office, probably at the website I previously gave you (which should be open) for their advice about how to make reservations if you haven%26#39;t received any replies yet.

Once again Marcopolko I am in your debt.

I know that Meersburg is a beautiful town, we were there 20 years ago on our honeymoon and it was the one town that my wife insisted we return to.

Another great place to stay is Villa Jaegerhaus in Hohenschwangau with close up views of lit up by night Neuschwanstein Palace. If you stay there, make sure you get rooms with a Neuschwanstein view as others may only have views of nextdoor also lit-up by night Hohenschwangau Palace where the family actually lived. The rooms one floor up on the east side, the middle and NE corner room are very nice and there is a connecting door between rooms and you can look at Neuschwanstein from your bed. (I%26#39;m sure that you%26#39;ll also want to return here.) The NE corner room also has views of both palaces. An excellent very small hotel with an excellent restaurant in the associated hotel across the road. You can find information about the palaces, the town and hotels at www.hohenschwangau.de . I believe if you click on my name and go to my review, that someone else has also posted photos of the hotel from their stay.

Hellow vantomVirginia, I am having much the same experience. I did receive a response from Romantik hotel, not not from others. Also hotels in Lindau have not responded. I%26#39;m suprised.

thomasO,

As an American who has been living in Germany the last 2.5 years, I%26#39;m not surprised at all. Germany isn%26#39;t known for being service oriented. Many restaurants don%26#39;t even post their hours, so you don%26#39;t know whether they will open shortly, never that day, or perhaps they are away for an extended vacation (although the latter is more likely to be posted). Both Lindau and Meersburg are popular summer tourist destinations, and many hotels will close in the off season. They may also be taking their vacation. Whether they check their e-mail and how often probably isn%26#39;t that big a concern to them as it is to you. Their time is probably more profitably spent drumming up summer business at German vacation trade shows which occur at this time.
