Munich Advice Pretty Please!

My boyfriend and I will be going to Munich for Octoberfest 2007

(Like to plan ahead) We will be coming from Amsterdam on an overnight train, ariving at the Hauptbahnhof train station in Munich about 7am. Any advice on where to stay that won%26#39;t breck the bank, possible b%26amp;b. And how to get from the train station to the lodging. We will be staying for about 2 nights then renting a car and heading south. I am unsure the best way to get all these things acomplished with a suitcase. I read that the train station area is not the best place to stay while in Munich.

Would greatly appreciate any advice about

1)Lodging

2)renting a car

3) getting around Munich during the packed octoberfest time

Hello!

1) Lodging: you %26quot;still%26quot; can get hotel or B%26amp;B, but don%26#39;t forget that, during Oktoberfest the prices are much higher then normal.

Look in TripAdvisor. Other topics and reviews. You can always find something interesting.

2) renting a car: I also suggest you to do asap. I can suggest Europcar or Buchbinder (always have some offers).

3) getting around: very easy. But, if you want to move better, don%26#39;t go in the Oktoberfest surrounding (Theresienstrasse area).

Hope you have a lot of fun in Munich. The city is very beautiful and in every corner you will find something to look.

Cheers

In the last 5 years we have stayed at the Hotel Europäischer Hof on three separate occasions and have been quite satisfied. It is a good 3-star property located directly across the street south of the Hauptbahnhof [main train station]. We would compare it with a 1990’s Holiday Inn and we have never felt unsafe in the surrounding area. Other much more expensive hotels such as the Le Meridien München, King%26#39;s Hotel First Class, Kings Center and Excelsior Hotel are also in the same area within 2 blocks of the station.

At the Europäischer Hof, their Frühstück [breakfast] is 5-star and on the morning of your arrival you could have breakfast there for just 5 € each. They will also store your luggage until your room is made up. The standard size rooms are quite small so I would recommend the Comfort size. As a frequent guest we got a discounted rate on a Business size room on the first weekend of the Christmas Market paying 133 € on Saturday December 2nd, 99 € on Sunday December 3rd and 111 € on Monday December 4th.

Trams #18 and #19 stop along the street out front and the S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations are located below the Hauptbahnhof. There are several car rental offices at the train station and it would be possible to walk to the Oktoberfest grounds from the hotel.

The hotel website is http://www.heh.de/e/default.htm and the E-mail is info@heh.de

Train station to lodging: No problem the U-Bahn, tram, bus or S-Bahn will take you there (wherever in Munich it is). Main station at 7 am is not a place to be afraid of, it will be full of people going to work/school etc.

Public transport in general will be good to get around, the only lines that get really really packed are U4/U5 going to Theresienhöhe, all other lines are just fine. If you want to avoid the crammed U-Bahn take any S-Bahn to Hackerbrücke and walk from there (10 min, follow the crowd) to the Oktoberfest.

Car rental have a look at the deals of www.holidayautos.com

You will not need a rental car in Munchen. I would not recommend it, as it can be VERY expensive. S-Bahn daily passes (TagesKarte) are a very good deal. Also, you can pretty much get to all the good places im Munchen on foot.
