Garmisch-P vs. Munich -- skiing vs. city experie ce

As an ardent skier, I%26#39;m eager to experience Garmisch-Partenkirchen but am torn between how much time to spend there vs. how much time to spend in Munich. I have been skiing for many years and regularly hit the slopes in Lake Tahoe, Colorado, etc. so it%26#39;s a big part of my life.

I%26#39;m planning on arriving in Munich 1/19 and must return to the states 1/24.

Are the slopes/lift lines such that I should avoid the weekend days and instead tour about Munich? Or, is the skiing and corresponding cultural experience in Garmisch-Partenkirchen such that I would be best to go directly there on Friday 1/19 and spend all my time there?

Lodging in Munich on Friday would cover three nights so I%26#39;m sort of torn in that regard too.

Any insight from a knowlegeable person/people would be appreciated!

We were in Garmisch-Partenkirchen December 26-29, skiing on man made snow, with very few lifts open and consequently very crowded. From what I understand they haven%26#39;t had much snow since then and as an avid skiier you may find it disappointing. Nevertheless, the sunshine in the Alps was beautiful and and we enjoyed the hiking trails connected to the Philosopher%26#39;s Walk in Partenkirchen. This may be the winter to devote more time to touring Munich and all the city has to offer.
