Hi, we’re going to spend about 10 days in Black forest area from 13 to 22 of February. Could somebody give us an advice about things we “must” to see and good areas for outdoor activities (like cross-country skiing)? What are the best places to stay in that area? We’ll take a car for all 10 days. Thanks a lot.

Normally: yes
But this year there is below 1000 m no snow. And above not much. Can however change till February. Otherwise - if there is no snow you can of course hike.

If you want to stay in the Black Forest somewhere in High Black Forest (Hochschwarzwald = region around the Feldberg near Freiburg).
Cities: Freiburg or Baden-Baden
Black Forest Open Air Museum

medieaval towns like
Gengenbach

Villingen, the already mentioned Rottweil
St. Blasien monastry

visiting spas, like
Radon Revital Bath in St. Blasien-Menzenschwand

I was just attempting a detailed reply of events in the Black Forest area when I lost what I was writing and do not want to repeat typing all the information. There are numerous carnival related events occuring at this time which are fun to attend besides the Narrrensprung in Rottweil (Alemannic carnival at its best) previously mentioned by Abalada. Any of these events would also be fun to attend, but if you%26#39;re not interested in them these places are good places to avoid because of the crowds associated with them. I%26#39;ve been stuck in a several hour traffic jam when stumbling by accident across a large carnival event, and roads can be closed. You can purchase the book Events 2007 Festefeiern in Baden-Wuerttemberg which lists the over 5,600 special events in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberd for 4.50 euros at most book stores. Although it is in German, you should be able to understand most of it if you only know English. I think that it might almost be a necessity for planning drives through the Black Forest.
The 17Feb Guggenmusiktreffen in Gutenbach might be interesting to attend. I love this unusual music and the elaborately costumed bands which play it.
You might also consider visiting the fairy tale-like castles of Lichtenstein and Hohenzollern (Hechingen) on the nearby Schwaebische Alb (low limestone mountains), and the old college town of Tuebingen with the excellently preserved medieval Bebenhausen monastery just north of it. Stuttgart has lots to see and do in and around it. See what I recently wrote in this forum on the topic 5 days in Germany. You might also consider crossing the Rhine to France and the similar countryside there in the mountains, but with French food.
You should have an excellent trip, and February is one of my favorite months to tour this area of Germany.
