Munich to Budapest

We areplanning to fly into Munich on May 31 and would like to travel to Budapest for a few days. Would train travel be best, or can we rent a car to drive to Budapest - do they allow leaving Germany to go into Hungary, and then return to Munich?

I know if you fly into Stuttgart from Atlanta with Delta that you could then take an inexpensive Germanwings flight to Budapest, to which they fly to daily.

I should have also mentioned that the best thing to do is to sign up on their website for advisories so they will contact you by e-mail when they sell tickets for 1 euro or have free tickets with only fees and taxes having to be paid. They usually do this every few months.

Thanks for the info. I looked into flights from Atlanta to Stuttgart - very expensive!! Munich seems to be cheaper. Also, we would really love to see the countryside by driving from Munich to Budapest, but wasn%26#39;t sure if we could take a car out of the country.

München - Budapest is approx. 650 km. That%26#39;s quite a distance to drive (for Europe).

Train would be the best choice. And if you get one of the cheap Europe-Special tickets you can make it for EUR 29,00.

%26gt; or can we rent a car to drive to Budapest - do they allow leaving Germany

Depends on the rental company and the kind of car you plan to rent. With a rented Audi, BMW or Merceds you must normally not drive into eastern Europe.

Something you have to ask the rental company about.

Scenery is not that interesting, apart from the parts before and after Salzburg in Bavaria and Austria. Large parts are through the (high) plains created by the Isar (a tributary of the Danube) and the Danube itself.
