Issue with trains

Hello everyone,

I visit Munich every two years or so, and am due back in March. It is my intention to travel onward to Venice after Munich, but am having some difficulty with train schedules.

It is my intention to have a RailPass select covering France, Germany, and Italy. However, using the online sites that I am aware of, I can%26#39;t seem to find any trips from Munich to Venice.

If anyone has any suggestions, or knows of a train ticket from Munich to Venice, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks!!

Better will be to use one of the specials for the trains from Munich to Venice. The (small) part through Austria is anyway not covered by your rail pass. And in Italy a rail pass makes barely sense.

Europe-Special Munich - Venice from EUR 29,00

SparNight tickets (night train München Hbf to Venezia S.L.)

Best source for train timetables in Europe is the DB timetable

Awesome, that is extremely helpful! Thank you very much!

The 29 € one-way fare that ‘abalada’ refers to is limited to 1 train/day. It is EuroCity train EC 87 which departs Munich at 11:30 and arrives at Venezia S. Lucia station at 18:31. You can use the referenced website [Venice is Vendeig] to order [click on ‘check availability’] and print out the ticket online. At random, I checked for travel on March 29th and this special non-refundable ticket was available.

You could also purchase the train ticket from France to Munich online in advance and pick-up the ticket in France. Train EC 67 departs Paris Est station at 10:45 and arrives at Munich HBf at 19:17.

Again, at random, I check for travel on March 22 and was quoted a 2nd class PREM’S ticket [no exchange/no refund] ticket for 50 € or upgrade to a MINI C 1st class ticket [no exchange/no refund] for 70 €. SNCF quotes the full 2nd class fare as 110 € while the Germany DB website quotes the fare at 118.20 €.

Train fares in Italy are very cheap and a rail pass would not save you money versus purchasing point-to-point tickets.

Bottom line:

• do advance planning

• buy online

• save a lot of money versus buying the 5-day 3 country rail pass for $404

• send ‘abalada’ and I checks for the money you just saved
