A good restaurant in Boppard, Germany?

My husband and I will be staying in Boppard in April. We are looking for recommendations for a great restaurant that isn%26#39;t TOO expensive for our nights stay there. Can you recommend a few? We would appreciate it a great deal! Thanks, Carlinda

Boppard has got his own website (www.boppard.de), but it is only on german. There are a lot of restaurants listed (partly with links ...)

Firstly to answer your question Carlinda the Ebertor Hotel is a beautiful romantic place to eat. They have an outside terrance right on the river banks with large white parasolls lit with fairy lights, very pleasant and the food was really good. You cant miss it as you stroll along the promenade, it is near where the cruise ships stay for the night.

if you are looking for something a little less expensive then I can recomend the Steverus -Stube, a family run tavern mein host is Heinz and his wife is Waltrud. They make you very welcome and the interior is traditional. You can also sit outside weather permitting and be surrounded by some of the most beautiful architecture along the Rhine, the church of St Severus is really lovelly. In the square behind the church is a little Itialian resteraunt, sorry don%26#39;t know the name but you can%26#39;t miss it, they do a nice meal too.

How long are you staying and where? Try to fit in a ride on the chair lift, it is so wonderful at the top with a resteraunt and a veiwing platform. The view of the Four Lakes as it is called is outstanding and is one of our favourite places to while away an hour or two.

If you get time and you like WW2 history then a trip on the train to Remargan is a must. We are going back that way in August and I can%26#39;t wait. Jane

Thank you SO much for your help! We were at a loss to find some place to eat as I don%26#39;t read German. We will try to fit in the ride to the top, but will unfortunately be in Boppard for only two half days: one half when we arrive, and one half before we leave. I will try to research the lift to the top of the mountain to see what their hours are... The Severus-Stube sounds wonderful! Then again, so does the Ebertor Hotel! Ah, decisions.... It%26#39;s our first trip to Europe, and we are making rather a circuit for seven weeks. Before Boppard, we will be in Koln.

Whle in Boppard, we are staying at the Hotel Rheinlust. I know it%26#39;s a decent hotel (I hope...if you know something negative about it, let me know), but I read that the food isn%26#39;t that great, so we don%26#39;t want to eat there. I%26#39;m rather a bit of a gourmet (goodness knows, at 100 kilos, I ought to be!), and my silly husband doesn%26#39;t like saurkraut!

From Boppard, we are going to France for two nights and then on to Torino. Then to Nice and Arles for four days.

Thank you again for your help. You are a darling to take the time!

Fondly, Carlinda

Carlinda the Rheinlust is right next door to the hotel we like to stay in and always looked wonderful when we took a peek thru the windows. It is a very nice looking hotel. Just outside is the promenade with the Rhine cruisers just two steps away. We always feel like we are in a minature railway when we look down from the top of the chair lift. It is easy to find just take a left as you exit the hotel and keep walking. There are plenty of signs and you cant miss it. it is something like 9 Euros and well worth it. If you get time to look around Cologne do so. It is a wonderful wonderful city. The cathedral is spectacular but a word of warning about climbing to the top, only do it if you are fit enough. We climbed it along with some New York firemen just after 9/11, I was so pleased they were as worn out as I was cos then I didnt feel as bad. lol The shopping there is pretty good too.

I know you will love Europe, Paris is so romantic and so easy to navigate, everything is easy to reach. Notre Dame is also very beautiful. We were lucky enough to spend New Year there a few years ago, it was so nice.

Anything else I can help you with just ask. Love Jane

PS we visited your beautiful state earlier this year, we fell in love with Carmel, are you near there?

Dear Jane: What a charming letter! And so nice to make a friend on TripAdvisor! We are traveling all around Europe for seven weeks, beginning April 11 and returning to Paris for three days before plane back to San Francisco on June 19. My husband has cancer and his prognosis is around 3 years (altho we are hoping and fighting for more time!). A trip through Europe has always been one of our dreams...so, our dream is coming true NOW, while we still have time. We are starting in Paris, then to Eindhoven, NL; then Koln, then Boppard, then Dijon, Lyon, Torino (IT), then Nice for two days and Arles for four. Then on to Spain and Portugal. (We are old surfers and rather hippies still, and love the coastlines and watching waves!). During our three day stay in Tarifa, we are going on an 8 hour guided trip through Tangier, Morocco! Just us and one guide with a minibus! And he%26#39;s a Rick Steves%26#39; recommendation, so at least reliable (although I am not too fond of Steves...). Then on to Salema in Portugal for four days. Then up the coast of Portugal and althroughout Spain again. And then France for the last 30 days - into the Loire Valley and the Dordogne Valley, stopping for two days at Biarritz (the surfers!!), Didon, Cherbourg, and on and on until our last nine days. The six days previous to returning to Paris (in the 7th arrondissment), we are spending in Belgium - three days in Bruges, and three in Brussels.

Doesn%26#39;t it sound wonderful? We are leasing a new Peugeot for the drive. But, because I have heard that Paris is NOT for cars truly, we are not having a vehicle in Paris. As our first stay in Europe will be in the Left Bank area, the access to the tourist sites is admirable. Not that we will be going to all of them, of course.

We%26#39;re 58, and very fond of travel. We spend two weeks every late December-January in the North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii. We got married there, and so it is a fond place for us.

Thanks so much for your letter.....I have just also written to another gentlemen I saw posted on TripAdvisor who lives in Torino, asking him to make a reservation for us at a recommended restaurant in Torino, as they don%26#39;t have an e-site and their phone number is listed.

TripAdvisor is a terrific site, I must say. If you are any indication of the caliber of people who visit it, I am VERY impressed indeed!

Thanks again for writing...

Very fondly, Carlinda

Carlinda it was so nice to wake up and log onto your lovely message back to me, it has really made my day. I am so very sorry to hear about your husband but thrilled for you that you are making this wonderful journey. Pity the UK is not on your itinery. I know you will be in bed now as there is an 8 hour time difference between us but I will return later this evening and give you my e-mail, I have some wonderful pictures of Boppard I think you might like and some of Paris too. Catch you later, Jane x

Carlinda I have decided against posting my mail unless you ask me too ok?

|||

Hi to all, I, too, am sorry to hear about your husband - we%26#39;ll all keep you in our thoughts. If you want to e-mail with someone, I suggest going to a service like yahoo that offers free e-mail and opening an account to use just for this purpose - that way you aren%26#39;t posting your main e-mail address and you can cancel and get a new one if you get too much spam or other problems. Once you have used the %26quot;not public but not mine%26quot; e-mail address you can give out your own to each other. Hope this helps and have a great trip.

Thanks for that advice Kileysmum, I tend to be a bit naive sometimes, that is probably the best idea. Carlinda if you are looking in and want the photos I have then we can try doing it this way.

We have just returned from New Year in Boppard and would definitely agree with the views expressed above about the Ebertor Hotel and the Severustube. Both were excellent, it depends on what ambience you are looking for. The Severustube is perhaps less formal, more of a German inn, whereas the Ebertor has a Kellar and upstairs a brasserie.Look at both and decide!

If you need a breakfast, go to the Central-Cafe and if you just need a lovely cafe, the Cafe-am-Markt is excellent. Also. Cafe Baldeau on the Rhine front is superb for tea/coffee and home made cakes.

A lovely town to eat in!!!
