Day trips from Rudesheim

Can anyone recommend a cool day trip from Rudesheim? We will be there for three nights in May and will be traveling with another couple and will have a railpass. Thanks!

I would definetely recommend Wiesbaden. It is quite near and one of the most beautiful cities in the region. Visit the Kurhaus and its casino, even if you do not gamble. Also its adjected Kurpark is quite nice. If you like luxury saunas/spa visit the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme, quite pricey, but the most beautiful sauna I have seen. Visit the orthodox church and/or stroll around Neroberg, for a view of the city from the hill.

Other that that the region near Rüdesheim is very pretty with its meandering Rhine Valley, the Lorreley and its castles, all very romantic, pretty and typical German, Wiesbaden would give you a different view of the region.

With your railpass, travel on the K-D Line ships is most likely free.

Rudesheim is a stop along the boat%26#39;s travels along the Rhine. You can get schedule information by Googling %26quot;K-D Line%26quot; .

I%26#39;d board the boat in Rudesheim and sail down the most scenic part of the Rhine. You%26#39;ll see castles, quaint villages and plenty of spectacular scenery.

Get off at Braubach and take the tour of Marksburg castle. It is the only castle along the Rhine that was never taken and destroyed. The view down to the Rhine is excellent and it is easy to see why the castles were so effective.

Catch the train from Braubach into Koblenz and walk along the river. The central area has a good view of the fortress and many restaurants. Have a nice dinner in Koblenz and take a fast train back to Rudesheim in the evening.
