Can't decide on a day trip

If you could do 2 day tours from Munich what would they be?

Depends on

weather

time of year

means of transportation

fitness

budget

a) city trips 1) Salzburg 2) Regensburg

b) mountain trips 1) Wendelstein 2) Partnachklamm or Höllentalklamm near Garmisch

c) castle trips 1) Chiemsee/Herrenchiemsee 2) Linderhof and Neuschwanstein

d) beer trips 1) trip to the monastery and brewery of Andechs 2) trip to Murnau for a %26#39;Karg%26#39; Weissbier 3) trip to Aying and brewery tour with tastings

... no idea whether these are to your taste

Thanks,

I%26#39;ll be in Munich in early July. There are so many great day trips I am having trouble deciding. Have heard that Berchesgaden%26#39;s Eagles Nest is interesting.

We are using public transport so thought maybe catching a train to Salzburg or would it be better to do a bus tour?

Neuschwanstein is also an option, and I do like the sound of a beer tour too.

See, i%26#39;m so indecisive!!

Day trip to Salzburg by train is a good option, you can use the Bayern-ticket and get there cheap with a direct connection (don%26#39;t bother with a bus tour).

Berchtesgaden by train also doable, takes quite a bit of time though, and the Eagles nest can be reached by bus.

If a mountain without hitler history will do as well the Wendelstein is a good option, a direct train of the Bayerische Oberlandbahn (BOB) will take you to the train station Osterhofen (1h20) or DB takes you to Brannenburg (1h). Either a cable car, a cog railway or your own feet will get you to the top.

To Garmisch also direct and fast connections by train, so makes a good day trip as well.

Neuschwanstein also doable by train (already covered on this forum), if that%26#39;s your cup of tea, go for it, I%26#39;m not a huge fan.

The brewery of Aying is covered here

and Andechs here

both accessible by Munichs public transport system (for Andechs, you%26#39;ll have to do a short pilgrimage from Herrsching, though), so less than 1 h traveling time.

The best thing is, you don%26#39;t have to decide now, you don%26#39;t need to buy train tickets in advance or make reservations.
